Though actors had to be at least 18 to get the part, she truthfully claimed she would be 18, not disclosing the multi-year gap until that would occur, and won the role. Learned to speak English from watching the "The Price Is Right" (1972). She said Bob Barker talked slow enough for her to understand him.
